Lower Cambrian (Series 2) small shelly fossils from along Nares Strait (Nunavut and Greenland; Laurentia)

چکیده
Three small assemblages of lower Cambrian (Cambrian Series 2, Stage 4) shelly fossils are described from Laurentian strata astride Nares Strait. The fauna the Humboldt Formation Daugaard-Jensen Land, North Greenland, is derived inner shelf sediments deposited on stable craton Inglefield Land High. Fossils Judge Daly Promontory, eastern Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, occur in Group (Kane Basin Formation) that have been structurally juxtaposed against older strata; they were originally assigned to Kennedy Channel Formation, which now considered be Neoproterozoic age. A similar offshore environments Aftenstjernesø northern Nyeboe reflects regional structural and sedimentological continuity with Canadian succession. Pojetaia robsonae sp. nov. Promontory.

Systematic revision of the trilobite genera Laudonia and Lochmanolenellus (Olenelloidea) from the lower Dyeran (Cambrian Series 2) of western Laurentia.
The olenelloid trilobite genus Laudonia Harrington, 1956 was thought to occur widely along the Cordilleran margin of Laurentia in lowermost Dyeran strata (Cambrian Series 2). However, supposed occurrences in the Rosella Formation (Cassiar Mountains, northern British Columbia), the Mural Formation (Cariboo Mountains, east-central British Columbia) and the Poleta Formation (Nevada)--re-examined, ...
متن کاملLincoln Sea and Nares Strait
A winter phenomenon of ice break-up takes place in Lincoln Sea every year. A previous study based on ERS-1 SAR data has been resumed based on Radarsat data that is briefly reported here. The study of two winters, 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, is supported by wind data. It is found that the ice motion in the area often is driven by wind but also that it is seriously influenced by blocking at the entr...
متن کاملDisc-shaped fossils resembling porpitids or eldonids from the early Cambrian (Series 2: Stage 4) of western USA
The morphology and affinities of newly discovered disc-shaped, soft-bodied fossils from the early Cambrian (Series 2: Stage 4, Dyeran) Carrara Formation are discussed. These specimens show some similarity to the Ordovician Discophyllum Hall, 1847; traditionally this taxon had been treated as a fossil porpitid. However, recently it has instead been referred to as another clade, the eldonids, whi...
متن کاملThe earliest annelids: Lower Cambrian polychaetes from the Sirius Passet Lagerstätte, Peary Land, North Greenland
Apart from the Phyllopod Bed of the Burgess Shale (Middle Cambrian) polychaete annelids are practically unknown from any of the Cambrian Lagerstätten. This is surprising both because their diversity in the Burgess Shale is considerable, while to date the Chengjiang Lagerstätte which is equally impressive in terms of faunal diversity has no reliable records of any annelids. Here we describe, on ...
متن کاملSmall bilaterian fossils from 40 to 55 million years before the cambrian.
Ten phosphatized specimens of a small (<180 micrometers) animal displaying clear bilaterian features have been recovered from the Doushantuo Formation, China, dating from 40 to 55 million years before the Cambrian. Seen in sections, this animal (Vernanimalcula guizhouena gen. et sp. nov.) had paired coeloms extending the length of the gut; paired external pits that could be sense organs; bilate...
